Renowned landscape designer Fernando Wong—whose work spans multimillion-dollar estates for high-profile clients including Greg Norman and Matt Damon—is parting ways with his Key West getaway, placing the two-bedroom townhouse on the market for $1.39 million.
The residence is located within Truman Annex, a prestigious waterfront enclave in Key West that blends historic architecture with resort-style amenities. Originally a 17th-century naval base, the gated community retains many of its Victorian and Colonial-era structures, lending what Wong describes as an unmistakable “old-world charm.”
“This is one of those communities that feels deeply rooted in history while still offering a true luxury lifestyle,” the listing agent told californialuxuryhouses, noting that Truman Annex remains one of the most sought-after addresses in Key West.

A Historic Setting With Resort-Style Living
According to Carrie Thomas of Keller Williams Key West Compass Realty, the townhouse officially hit the market on August 2. The development sits approximately half a mile from the heart of Old Key West, placing residents within easy reach of the island’s restaurants, boutiques, and nightlife.
The Truman Annex name itself carries historical significance. Former U.S. President Harry Truman spent time at the base during his presidency, and his former barracks now operate as the Truman Little White House museum—an enduring landmark just steps from the community.
Amenities within Truman Annex include multiple swimming pools, walking and biking paths, and a waterfront park. “It’s rare to find a location that offers both privacy and proximity to everything Key West is known for,” Thomas said.

A Contemporary Island Aesthetic
Spanning approximately 900 square feet across two levels, the townhouse features two bedrooms and two-and-a-half bathrooms. Wong describes the interior style as “contemporary island,” with an open floor plan and expansive windows that flood the space with natural light.
Blue tones feature prominently throughout the home, a deliberate choice, Wong explained. “We’re fans of blue because it’s soothing and always reminds us of the ocean,” he said.

Recent upgrades include new flooring, custom wood doors, updated kitchen appliances, and renovated bathrooms. The property also offers three outdoor living areas, including a covered terrace off the primary suite that overlooks swaying palm trees.
Wong and his husband and business partner, Tim Johnson, decorated the residence together, selecting furnishings and lighting from brands such as Brown Jordan, Ralph Lauren, Serena & Lily, and Legrand. These pieces are included in the asking price, adding to the home’s turnkey appeal.

Investment Value and Rental Potential
The couple purchased the townhouse in 2017 for $830,000, according to Wong and Johnson. When not in personal use, the property has been rented for an average of $3,000 per week, making it both a lifestyle retreat and an income-producing asset.
“This townhouse has performed exceptionally well as a rental,” Thomas told californialuxuryhouses. “Key West continues to attract both short-term visitors and long-term buyers, which keeps demand consistently high.”
Market data supports that assessment. According to Redfin, the median home price in Key West reached $1.15 million in July, marking an 11.9% year-over-year increase. Sales activity also climbed, with 33 homes sold during the month—a 26.9% rise compared to the previous year.

Why Wong Is Moving—But Not Leaving
Despite listing the townhouse, Wong and Johnson are not leaving Truman Annex. The couple is currently under contract to purchase a larger waterfront apartment within the same development—one that previously belonged to photographer and Johnson & Johnson heiress India Blake Johnson.
The new residence spans roughly 1,770 square feet and occupies a wing attached to the former naval hospital. Notable features include vaulted ceilings in the living room and a large terrace offering sweeping ocean views. The couple signed a contract earlier this month for $2.825 million, below the original asking price of $2.995 million, and expect to close in mid-October.
“We love the townhouse, but we love the ocean more,” Wong said. “When the opportunity to buy the apartment came up, we didn’t hesitate.”
Californialuxuryhouses attempted to reach the homeowner directly to discuss long-term design plans for the new waterfront residence, but no additional comment was received prior to publication.
As lifestyle-driven buyers continue to prioritize walkable locations, historic character, and strong rental fundamentals, Wong’s Key West townhouse stands out as a refined example of luxury living—shaped by a designer’s eye and anchored in one of Florida’s most enduring resort markets.
