In 2005, long before his death in 2019, fashion icon Max Azria purchased a historic residence designed by Paul R. Williams in the affluent Holmby Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles for $14.4 million. The BCBG Max Azria founder and his wife, Lubov, then spent several years and many millions of dollars extensively renovating the property. They later put the house back on the market with a nearly $70 million price increase.

Since first listing the estate nine years ago for an impressive $85 million, records show it has been on and off the market with prices ranging from $88 million to the current $55 million asking price. The property was also available for rent at up to $400,000 per month and used as a filming location. Now, with the house still unsold, listing agents Rayni Williams and Branden Williams of The Beverly Hills Estates have decided to auction the 60-room estate through Concierge Auctions, with bids expected to start at up to $38 million.
The picturesque grounds.
Originally commissioned by radio star Charles Correll in the late 1930s for $70,000—and later home to Oscar-winning writer, producer, and novelist Sidney Sheldon, who reportedly added 10,000 square feet to the property—the expansive compound is situated behind a long gated driveway and a spacious motorcourt accommodating over 20 vehicles. The estate includes multiple structures, offering a total of 14 bedrooms and 25 bathrooms across an impressive 30,000 square feet of recently updated living space.
Luxurious amenities feature an office with skyline views and a 5,500-square-foot movie theater complete with a concession stand. The property also boasts nine fireplaces, a gold-domed library, a game room with a wet bar, a gym, a wine cellar, a catering kitchen, and staff accommodations. Additionally, there’s a pool house converted into a wellness center equipped with a sauna, steam shower, and massage area.

Additional highlights include an elegant double-height entry foyer beneath a skylight, featuring a sweeping bridal staircase. The living room boasts parquet floors, a fireplace, a music nook, and a wall of French doors that open to a terrace. The formal dining room is adorned with a silver-leaf ceiling, while the spacious gourmet kitchen offers two islands and high-end stainless appliances. The opulent primary suite includes a fireside sitting area, a private balcony, a large showroom-style closet, and a luxurious bath.

The garden-laced grounds enhance the property, hosting an infinity-edge swimming pool with a sundeck and grassy lawn, a fire-pit lounge area, a glass-walled tennis court with an elevated viewing box, a greenhouse for growing produce, a koi pond, and an al fresco tea room.

According to The Wall Street Journal, which first reported the upcoming auction, Azria’s widow has not lived in the property for several years. Lubov has decided to sell because she now resides in L.A.’s Venice Beach neighborhood, where she operates an art gallery. “It’s literally just me. My youngest is 27,” she told the WSJ. “I’m now into moving on with my life.”
