After nearly six years of ownership, Robert Rodriguez has decided to sell his ranch-style home overlooking Lake Travis in Austin, Texas. The renowned filmmaker, known for movies such as Sin City and Spy Kids, is asking $8.9 million for the waterfront property, which he purchased in October 2018.
Originally designed by modernist architect O’Neil Ford in 1962, the house underwent a significant renovation in the late 1990s by designer/builders Dick Clark and David Dalgleish. Described as seamlessly blending historical charm with modern luxury, the residence has been affectionately named The Bond House by Rodriguez, evoking the sophisticated ambiance of 1960s Sean Connery James Bond films.
Spanning nearly 5,200 square feet, the home features four bedrooms and five baths, with hardwood floors, exposed brick walls, and soaring wood-beam ceilings throughout. Highlights include a solarium with an indoor pool and spa, a funicular descending to a private dock, and a waterfall-clad courtyard. Set on a wooded, bluff-top parcel of almost 4 acres, the property offers serene privacy behind gates.
According to listing agents Dara Allen and Monica Fabbio of @properties lone star Christie’s International Real Estate, the house served as a creative sanctuary and tranquil retreat for Rodriguez, allowing him to unwind amidst the secluded pool area and lake breezes.
Rodriguez remarked in a press statement, “Driving just 15 miles from my studio to the Bond House, I’d start my weekend feeling like I was in another country… completing the most relaxed weekend, even though it was just beginning.”
