The iconic Playboy Mansion has nearly completed its renovations after three years of work, featuring a new roof and what appears to be an expanded grotto for a future spa area.
These renovations, which surpassed the $1.6 million mark in July according to TMZ, include the addition of detached living quarters, an underground generator, and interior upgrades such as an enhanced elevator, new lighting, and basement foundation repairs.
Billionaire Daren Metropoulos, co-owner of Hostess Brands, acquired the mansion for a staggering $100 million in 2016. While Playboy founder Hugh Hefner was permitted to reside there until his passing in 2017, significant renovations began in 2020 under Metropoulos’s ownership. The renovations are now nearly complete, and there are plans to integrate the mansion with a neighboring property owned by Metropoulos.
The sale of the Playboy Mansion included an agreement to preserve the main structure of the residence, preventing demolition.
Originally constructed in 1927, the Playboy Mansion was purchased by Playboy Enterprises for $1 million in 1971.

The pool inside the grotto, as depicted in 2007, is covered and adorned with stone steps and pathways.
Alongside the roof and grotto renovations, a separate housing or garage area was constructed on the side of the property, as depicted in the picture.
Hugh Hefner, pictured in 2014, resided in the home until his passing in 2017. However, he sold the property in 2016 to Daren Metropoulos, co-owner of Hostess Brands. It was agreed upon that Hefner would continue living there until his death.
