Baz Luhrmann’s New York City townhouse is back on the market with a new look and a price tag just under $16 million. The Hollywood filmmaker and his wife, costume designer Catherine Martin, have given the Manhattan residence a dramatic makeover. Initially listed for $20 million in March 2022, it returned to the market at $18 million in September 2023, with an interim rental at $75,000 per month. The current asking price reflects a notable reduction.

The Luhrmanns bought the 8,500-square-foot Stuyvesant Park brownstone in 2017 for $13.5 million and embarked on an extensive renovation, earning the home a spot in Robb Report’s annual Best of the Best issue. The five-story Anglo-Italianate property now features six bedrooms, five full bathrooms, two powder rooms, an ivy-clad backyard, and an elevator. Highlights include 16-foot ceilings, arched doorways, original moldings, five fireplaces, and a grand floating staircase.

The main parlor level boasts full-length windows and a cast-iron Juliet balcony with park views. The rear primary suite offers an en suite bathroom, a walk-in closet, and a private terrace. The 28-foot-wide townhouse includes a Clive Christian-designed kitchen with Viking and Sub-Zero appliances, marble countertops, and painted pine cabinets.

The basement is configured as a media room, perfect for screening Luhrmann’s films. The uppermost floor, once occupied by jazz saxophonist Clifford Jordan and later used as Luhrmann’s studio where he wrote the script for Elvis, is now a standalone one-bedroom, one-bathroom suite with a living room, bar, and gym, adding to the home’s theatrical charm.
