Though this North Vancouver residence wasn’t crafted by Joseph Eichler himself, it features many of the iconic developer’s trademarks. Located in the affluent Upper Lonsdale neighborhood, the midcentury home boasts a cool California modern design that harmoniously connects with its natural surroundings.

Built in 1956 by renowned West Coast designer and builder Bob Lewis for former judge Don Pool and his family, the post-and-beam dwelling has been meticulously preserved and modernized by current owners Dean Eilertson and Jenni Gullett. Eilertson and Gullett, a prop master and costume designer who have worked on films and TV shows like Tron, X-Men, and The Good Doctor, have maintained the home’s midcentury charm while updating it for modern living. The home features four bedrooms and two bathrooms within nearly 3,200 square feet of living space, characterized by wood-paneled walls, exposed-beam ceilings, and large windows that offer views of the garden-laced grounds.

“If somebody else was buying it, they were going to tear it down,” the couple said in a press statement. “We wanted to restore it. It’s a very serious discipline to take on a mid-century modern house and keep it in its zone. We’re not trying to renovate it to change the house. Of course, you’re going to change it so it’s more livable. But if you can keep it within the same feeling then you’re helping preserve the house.”

Nestled on a heavily wooded parcel of land spanning over a quarter-acre on a hilltop, the cedar-shingled structure, known as the “Parkland House,” is listed on the District of North Vancouver Community Heritage Register.

A cathedral entry pavilion with reeded glass-panel sidelights leads to the two-story house, starting with an entry foyer that flows into a spacious open-concept great room. This area features a fireside living space and a door opening to a wood-clad balcony perfect for al fresco dining. Inside, the dining area connects to a kitchen equipped with an eat-in island and modern stainless appliances.

The main level also includes a family room, two secondary bedrooms, and a primary suite with a bathroom featuring dual vanities, a soaking tub, and a separate shower. The lower level houses another bedroom with its own bath, a gym, mudroom, laundry room, and access to an attached carport that accommodates two vehicles.
