Following the recent passing of Duane Eddy at age 86, there’s no better time to highlight this stunning midcentury modern home once owned by the electric guitar virtuoso, renowned for his signature “twang” sound. Eddy, who influenced rock legends from Jimi Hendrix to Bruce Springsteen, resided in the house for about six years starting in 1963. Now, this residence has come on the market in a canyon high above Beverly Hills, priced just under $3 million.

The property last sold in spring 2021 for $1.8 million to local real estate agents Derek Devore and Marisa San Antonio, and was transferred last year to Zen Estates LLC. Completed in the early ’60s, the home features three bedrooms and an equal number of bathrooms, spread across a little more than 2,400 square feet of single-level living space. The interior boasts a blend of tile and light hardwood floors, high vaulted ceilings, and walls of glass that frame picturesque canyon views.

A staircase nestled alongside a gated driveway and an attached two-car garage leads to the ebony-hued front door. This door opens into a formal dining area that overlooks a spacious living room, featuring a massive white brick fireplace with a floating hearth and built-in firewood storage. Sliding glass doors lead out to one of several decks. The adjacent kitchen boasts a skylight, sleek white cabinetry, newer stainless steel appliances, and a breakfast nook with outdoor access.

Additional spaces include a cozy family room and a primary suite with its own deck and dual-vanity bath. The secluded grounds span almost one-third of an acre, offering terraced gardens under a lush tree canopy, as well as an open-air cabana beside a brick-lined pool surrounded by a grassy lawn.

According to the listing held by Steve Frankel of Coldwell Banker Realty, plans have been approved to convert the garage into an accessory dwelling unit. Additionally, the home is just down the street from the former residence of Nancy Sinatra, which sold for $3 million in October.

Born in Corning, N.Y., Duane Eddy began playing guitar at age 5 and went on to become a successful instrumental recording artist in the late ’50s and ’60s, with hits like “Forty Miles of Bad Road,” “Because They’re Young,” and “Cannonball.” The self-taught musician influenced numerous rock guitarists, including George Harrison, Jimi Hendrix, and Bruce Springsteen, the latter of whom paid homage to Eddy in “Born to Run.” Inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1994, the same year his original hit recording of “Rebel Rouser” appeared in the movie Forrest Gump, Eddy passed away on April 30 from complications of cancer.
