A French villa near Nice, where the late Princess Grace of Monaco used to vacation, is now available for purchase. Previously known as Les Moulins du Villars, this Provence-Alpes Cote d’Azur residence was listed for a hefty $12.5 million in August 2023. However, after failing to attract a buyer, the estate has returned to the market six months later at a discounted price of €7.95 million (approximately $8.5 million), represented by Jack Harris of Knight Frank.
Originally built in the 14th century as an olive oil and flour mill, the property underwent significant transformations over the years. Renovated in the 1970s by Count Jean Fernand Joseph Gouin de Roumilly and entirely rebuilt in 2012, the villa became a favored destination for Princess Grace and her daughter, Princess Caroline, in 1980. Sadly, Princess Grace passed away in a car accident in 1982.
Located in the village of Gilette on the French Riviera, the villa spans 6,000 square feet with seven bedrooms split between the main residence and a guest house. Situated on approximately five acres, the property boasts modern amenities such as an elevator, a tennis court/helipad/soccer pitch, a wine cellar, and a fitness studio. Despite its medieval origins, the grounds include citrus and olive trees, two vegetable gardens, a Koi pond, and a natural spring renowned for its healing properties.
The manor, constructed from local stone, comprises four stories and features original period furnishings, bespoke artwork, and a unique glass-encased wrought iron wheel installed in 2012. Inside, there are two living rooms and two kitchens, but only one media room. Outside, several outbuildings include a recently restored ruin and a heated infinity pool overlooking the picturesque Latti Valley.
