In the 1940s, Sherle Wagner and his wife, Rose, opened a modest closet accessories shop in New York City. Recognizing a gap in the market for luxury bath products, they began creating unique and opulent items, such as 24-carat gold-plated dolphin faucets, hand-painted basins, and gold-plated toilet seats. Their innovative designs attracted high-profile clients including Frank Sinatra, President John F. Kennedy, King Hassan of Morocco, and Saudi billionaire Adnan Khashoggi.
The Sherle Wagner company, initially based in Manhattan, expanded internationally and was eventually acquired by the $2 billion home products giant Masco in 1989 for an undisclosed amount. Around the same time, the Wagners purchased a 1.4-acre plot in South Florida for $300,000 and built a custom contemporary home. Now, nearly four decades later, their stylish West Palm Beach residence has hit the market for just under $4 million. The listing is managed by Alexa Hammer and Brian Fairweather Jr. of The Agency.
Completed in 1989, the all-white estate features an attached two-car garage and an additional bay for a golf cart. It is located in The Enclave, a prestigious double-gated community within West Palm Beach’s Breakers West Country Club. The home offers 5,660 square feet of living space, including five bedrooms and seven bathrooms, showcasing Sherle Wagner’s unique creations, along with marble floors, soaring ceilings, bespoke cabinetry, and expansive glass walls with views of the lake and golf course.
Notable features include an art gallery-turned-foyer that leads to a living room with a dramatic floor-to-ceiling marble fireplace. Other highlights are a formal dining room with a mirrored ceiling, a sky-lit kitchen with sleek cabinetry, an eat-in island, high-end appliances, and a breakfast nook. The media room features a burl wood bookcase, while the primary suite includes a seating area, a walk-in closet, and two luxurious bathrooms.
The property’s tropical-inspired grounds offer a large heated pool and various spaces for al fresco lounging and entertaining. Buyers also have the option to join Breakers West Country Club, set within a 670-acre wildlife sanctuary and featuring an 18-hole Rees Jones golf course, Har-Tru tennis courts, a sports and activity complex, and several dining options.
Sherle Wagner continued to be active in his business until his death in March 1997 at age 79. His wife, who lived to be 104 years old, passed away in July 2023.
