Former New Hampshire Governor John Lynch’s beachfront home on the Caribbean island of Virgin Gorda features two kitchens and six outdoor showers. The property is now hitting the market for $15.9 million, potentially setting a record for one of the highest prices ever paid on the island, according to local agents.
Located within the Oil Nut Bay resort, the approximately 6,000-square-foot, six-bedroom home sits on a sandy cove in the British Virgin Islands. Listing agent Roz Colthart of Corcoran BVI states that the listing price includes furnishings and two golf carts for resort transportation.
Governor Lynch and his wife, retired pediatrician Dr. Susan Lynch, have been vacationing on Virgin Gorda since the 1990s, citing their preference for the BVIs over other island destinations worldwide.
After John Lynch’s tenure as governor from 2005 to 2013, he and his wife Susan began renting a house on the island around 2016. Initially planning to build their own home, they seized the opportunity to purchase the approximately half-acre estate for about $8 million when their rental became available for sale around 2018.
According to Colthart, each of the six bedroom suites in the home features an outdoor shower and a separate entrance. Common areas include two kitchens, a gym, and a great room with a vaulted ceiling. Behind the house, there are seating, dining, and grilling areas that overlook an infinity pool and the beach. On the opposite side, views extend to a pond often frequented by flamingos.
John Lynch mentioned that he and his wife visited the home approximately twice a year, typically staying for several weeks each time. They cherished activities such as snorkeling, sailing, paddleboarding, and playing pickleball with their children and grandchildren. Throughout their visits, they formed close bonds with resort staff, frequently hosting them for drinks and recruiting them for beach touch football tournaments, John added.
However, the couple has now chosen to sell their home because they wish to devote more time to traveling.
“I have mixed feelings about selling, but we don’t use it as much as we could, and we want to travel,” explained the former governor, who previously served as the CEO of furniture manufacturer Knoll. He noted that they recently returned from a trip to Africa, fulfilling a long-standing wish on his wife’s bucket list.
Additionally, the Lynches are seeking $3.6 million for an adjacent lot where they originally intended to construct a custom home before purchasing their current house.
According to local real estate agent Anthony Campbell from Smiths Gore Christie’s International Real Estate, another property on Virgin Gorda is under contract to be sold for $16 million, potentially surpassing the island’s previous record of $12.6 million. Campbell reported that luxury homes on Virgin Gorda averaged around $3 million in sales during 2022 and 2023, up from approximately $1.7 million in 2021. He also noted that the highest-priced home ever sold in the British Virgin Islands fetched $53.4 million in 2014.
