Phil Donahue’s old house might break a record in Westport, Connecticut

Phil Donahue and Marlo Thomas’ previous residence in Connecticut, now listed at $27.5 million in Westport, is poised to become the town’s highest-priced sale if it fetches anywhere near the asking price. Another former home of the couple, a Tudor-style property nearby, currently holds that distinction, having been sold for $25 million in 2006, according to property records.

Phil Donahue and Marlo Thomas built the home in 2007.

According to public records, the sellers, who were unavailable for immediate comment, purchased the Beachside Avenue residence from Donahue and Thomas in 2013 for $20 million.

Records indicate that the sellers own multiple properties on Beachside Avenue, including one formerly belonging to Harvey Weinstein, which they acquired for a combined $16 million in 2018. They have since demolished Weinstein’s former residence to divide its two lots—one is currently listed for approximately $10 million, while the other sold in May for $8.5 million.

The primary suite, which has a bedroom with a vaulted ceiling and water views, was renovated by the sellers.

In contrast, the recently listed shingle-style house sprawls across nearly 6.6 acres, boasting 400 feet of waterfront along the Long Island Sound.

Leslie Clarke of Compass, who listed the property last week, highlighted its uniqueness: “There are no other properties offering such expansive land, extensive waterfront, and luxurious accommodations currently on the market on Beachside Avenue.”

The kitchen has been remodeled.

Originally constructed in 2007 by Donahue and Thomas, the residence spans 11,450 square feet and features five bedrooms, five full bathrooms, and a half-bath. Clarke noted that the design maximizes views of the great lawn and water from every room, emphasizing seamless indoor-outdoor flow throughout the main floor.

The primary suite, extensively renovated by the sellers along with the kitchen, includes a bedroom with a vaulted barn wood ceiling, surrounded by water vistas. Additional features encompass a sitting room, dressing room, and a modern white bathroom with a soaking tub positioned to overlook the water. A guest wing with a separate entrance accommodates two more bedrooms.

According to listing records, additional amenities on the property comprise a full-size clay tennis court, a guest house, a home gym, four garages, and a covered bay. The residence was previously listed for $28 million for a span of three months in 2020.
